Duties:
Reporting to the Curator of Education and Public Programs, the Art Education Assistant will research the Gallery’s collection and special exhibitions, develop and deliver interactive tours and hands-on programs related to permanent collection exhibitions for visitors from summer day camps to special groups, as well as to the general public. S/he will assist with the Summer School of the Arts program including: support for art instructors as necessary; greet children/parents at beginning and ending of each day and assist with supervision; assist with preparation of art materials and studio maintenance; one to one assistance for children engaged in special projects as well as assistance with additional programming as necessary.
Qualifications:
Must be registered in the Young Canada Works (YCW) on-line candidate inventory (www.youngcanadaworks.gc.ca) and meet the eligibility criteria of the program. Must also apply through the Nova Scotia government employment site at https://jobs.novascotia.ca
Full-time university or community college student entering or returning to study in September 2017. The candidate will have a minimum of one year completed toward an undergraduate degree or diploma in Fine Arts, Art History, Art Education or Museum Studies or other related field. The candidate will have demonstrated an ability working with children, youth, and adults in the arts. The candidate must have proficient written and verbal communication skills; strong planning and organizational skills as well. The candidate must have good keyboarding skills and the ability to use Word, Internet and Email as well as experience in web research. They will have the ability to work with a diverse public; and the ability to carry out responsibilities in a professional manner.

Hourly Rate: $15.00/hour plus vacation pay for 35 hours per week.
