Responsibilities:
1) Organize a weekly summer ceilidh series. The student will contact and schedule talent,
advertise the event, set up the venue, arrange for refreshments and emcee the evening of the ceilidh.
2) Provide visitors with tours of the museum and answer any questions they may have.
3) Assist with developing a new main museum exhibit for the summer. This will be focued on Canada 150 celebrations.
4) Assist with the gift shop. This will involve processing sales and tracking inventory.
5) Complete an assigned research project relating to the history of Port Hood. The completed project will become part of the museum collection and will be made available to the public.
6) Assist with the research, set up and maintenance of museum displays.
7) Update our Collective Access database with new materials in our collection. This database allows our artifacts to be viewable online through www.novamuse.ca.
8) Photograph museum events.
9) Update our museum website with event information and promote the museum through our social media applications.
10) Maintain museum grounds, ensuring the lawn is mowed and flowers watered.
11) Assist with day to day museum operations, including opening and closing.
12) Organize one of the BBQs that occur during Chestico Days, our local festival. The student is responsible for all aspects of this fundraiser from obtaining sponsorship from local businesses to setting up the event to providing food and handling the cash.
13) Fluency in French is not a requirement but knowledge of the language is an asset. Knowledge of the Gaelic language is also a definite asset.
14) The museum hopes to once again offer walking tours of Port Hood Port Hood Island. The student will assist with the planning, organization and promotion of these tours.
15) Assist with class visits from the local school during the month of June.
16) We hope to have a Canada 150 themed garden party at a local historic house. The student will assist with the planning, organization and promotion of this event.
