The FOFA GALLERY at Concordia University in Montréal seeks two artists to produce art work(s) during a summer residency. Each position will be 30-hours / week, temporary positions that run 10 weeks from June 19th to August 28th 2017. Rate of pay per position is $16 per hour. The FOFA Gallery will accept proposals by individual artists, in addition to 2-person collaborative proposals.

Should the successful candidate need to relocate to Montreal, they will be responsible to cover the moving costs and pay for their accommodations while here.

The artists will be invited to create work over the course of 10 weeks in the various spaces of the FOFA Gallery. The residency will include regular, open-studio hours that invite the public to engage and/or interact with the work and the artists. Their time here will conclude with a finissage event in the last week of the residency as a final exhibition, or performance. The FOFA seeks submissions that are innovative, embrace risk and experimentation within a unique participatory context and that have the potential to offer ongoing dialogue, critical discourse surrounding contemporary art production. The call is open to the range of disciplines within the fine arts including cross-disciplinary practices.

The residency will take advantage of its street level space in downtown Montreal. Situated in a vibrant part of the city, many festivals and cultural events are held within the area throughout the summer. In addition to Concordia University, several other educational institutions line the street as well as other galleries and cultural institutions.  

The individuals will work in direct relation and under the supervision and guidance of the gallery director and exhibition coordinator.

The ideal candidate will have a sincere passion for producing art that responds to current issues and artistic concerns within a social context. They must be an innovative thinker, risk-taker and interested in experimental practice while invested in pursuing a career in the arts. They will appreciate the role of arts and culture in the development of community as well as a keen interest in the role of site or location in this development. Students currently enrolled in their BFA or MFA in Studio Arts are particularly encouraged to apply. They must be self-motivated and interested in working with a team. The candidate should be genuinely interested in contemporary art, have exceptional time-management skills and willing and eager to develop their administrative skills related to pursuing a professional artistic practice.

Each artist in residence will receive a materials budget and have access to the FOFA Gallery equipment and tools and will work with the exhibition coordinator to acquire materials and services as needed, when possible.

- Project proposal (maximum 1000 words);
- Curriculum vitae including contact information;
- Supporting visual documents: maximum of 10 digital images – JPEG images only, MAC formatted. Maximum of 1 video (up to 5 minutes);
- Descriptive list of included materials with artists name, title, date, media and size.
