The Yukon Transportation Museum seeks three dynamic individuals to fill the positions of Host/Interpreter. These positions are a 16 week duration with start date May 14th, 2017 and an end date of September 2nd, 2017.

2017 is the 150th birthday for Canada as well as the 75th anniversary of the Alaska Highway. These positions will be instrumental in our activities for these two very special occasions.

You will be the part of the Museum that brings Yukon transportation history alive! YTM hosts visitors from all over the world, and it is anticipated 2017 will be a busy and exciting season with increased Canadian and global visitation.

As Host/Interpreter, you will:
-conduct guided tours of the museum
-interpret museum exhibit/displays
-assist in the delivery of children’s programmes
-provided front-of-house services, including Admission and Gift Shop duties
-promote local and territorial attractions and facilities
-choose a special summer project that allows you to expand an area of interest for yourself (ex: research, create an event)

The start date for both positions is May 14th, 2017 at the Yukon Transportation Museum, located at 30 Electra Crescent, Whitehorse, Yukon. The deadline for applications is April 28, 2017.

-Cover letter introducing the applicant and answering the following questions: 1) How is the story of Yukon transportation relevant to today? 2) What are your 1 year, 5 year and 20 year goals? 3) A haiku summing up your interpretation, impression, ideals of Yukon transportation. (5-7-5) 4) Describe an item in your house and convince me of its significance for you (max 200 words).

Qualifications:
1. English Speaking
2. Good knowledge of Yukon history and geography (or willing to learn)
3. Good written skills
4. Excellent oral communication skills
5. Outgoing, friendly and service oriented attitude
6. Self motivated, team player
7. French, Japanese or German as a second language would be an asset.
8. Proficient in Word, Power Point

Candidates must be students returning to school in the fall who are between the ages of 18 and 30 who meet Young Canada Works eligibility criteria.

Wage will increase to $15/hr based on performance measures being met.
