Located in Lynnwood National Historic Site, the Norfolk Arts Centre (NAC) is a municipal public art gallery dedicated to exhibiting and collecting high quality Canadian visual art.
Description:
This is a unique opportunity to join a small, rural municipal public gallery team working to build and expand resources and opportunities for the local community. We are seeking an individual who has the interest in the documentation and registration of the permanent collection and County-owned works of art. The candidate must be passionate public art collections, their management and registration.
The primary role of the Collections Assistant will be the documentation and registration of the permanent collection and County-owned works of art. The Collections Assistant will assist with the reorganization of the permanent collection storage space, the condition report assessment and digital documentation of the collection, and the population of the collections database using Past Perfect software. In addition, the Collections Assistant will assist with the installation and preparation of summer exhibitions and special events, as needed.
Qualifications:
- Enrolled in full-time, post-secondary studies in Museum Studies, Art History, Visual Arts or equivalent and returning to full-time studies in Fall of 2017. Supporting confirmation letter from your Registrar’s Office will be required.
- Must be eligible to work in Canada, be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident and be between the ages of 16-30 years.
- Knowledge of gallery/collection protocols and standards; safe art handling techniques; and cataloguing systems.
- Experience in digital photography and database management; experience with Past Perfect software an asset.
- Proficient in MS Office platforms; experience in Adobe Creative suite an asset.
- Knowledge of contemporary art regionally, nationally and internationally.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal and client relations skills.
- Exceptional research, analytical, and problem solving skills.
- Excellent leadership skills with the ability to work with volunteers and contracted summer staff.
- Demonstrated initiative, flexibility, and resourcefulness with the ability to work independently.
- Norfolk County requires a criminal reference check as a condition of employment. The successful applicant will be reimbursed.
- Ability to work some evenings and Saturdays as required.
