Museum Assistant, Homewood Museum

Homewood Museum, owned and operated by the Ontario Heritage Trust, is looking for a responsible, enthusiastic student to work as a Museum Assistant for the 2017 summer season. Homewood is one of Ontario’s oldest homes, showcasing the history of six generations of the Jones family.

The Museum Assistant will work with a small team of staff to plan and deliver guided tours and children’s programs, research and develop a small artifact exhibit, and assist with collections care and all other aspects of the operations and administration of the site.

The position will begin on May 15 and continue to September 3, 2017. The salary is $11.25 for a 36.25 hour work week.

Qualifications: This position is partially funded by Young Canada Works in Heritage Organizations (Canadian Museums Association). To be eligible for consideration under this program a candidate must be legally entitled to work in Canada and be between 16 and 30 years of age at the start of the program. The ideal candidate will have excellent public speaking skills, work well independently and in a team situation, and have an interest in history, collections management and/or tourism. They must work well in a quiet environment and be able to self-motivate for the accomplishment of tasks. Previous work or volunteer experience in a museum, historic site or art gallery, or working with children, will be considered an asset. A valid Emergency First Aid Certificate is required.

Le Musée Homewood, dont la Fiducie du patrimoine ontarien est propriétaire et gestionnaire, cherche un(e) étudiant(e) responsable et enthousiaste pour travailler comme assistant(e) du musée pendant l’été 2017. Homewood est une des plus vieilles maisons en Ontario, mettant en valeur l’histoire des six générations de la famille Jones.

L’assistant(e) du musée travaillera aux côtés du personnel et des volontaires pour diriger les visites guidées et les programmes pour enfants. Il ou elle travaillera aussi en recherchant et développant une petite exposition des artéfacts, et assistera avec l’aménagement des collections et tous les autres aspects de la gestion et de l’administration du site.

La position commencera le 15 mai et continuera jusqu’au 3 septembre 2017. Le salaire est 11.25 $ / h pour 36.25 heures de travail par semaine.

Qualification : Cette position est partiellement financée par Jeunesse Canada au travail dans les établissements du patrimoine (Association des musées canadiens). Pour être admissible dans le cadre de ce programme, il faut être légalement éligible à travailler au Canada, et il faut avoir entre 16 et 30 ans au commencement du programme. Idéalement, la/le candidat(e) aura un excellent art oratoire, travaillera bien individuellement et dans une équipe, et aura un intérêt dans l’histoire, l’aménagement des collections, et / ou le tourisme. Il ou elle travaillera bien dans un endroit silencieux et pourra se motiver à accomplir des tâches. L’expérience dans un endroit historique, dans un musée ou une galerie, ou travaillant avec les enfants, sera considérée comme un atout. Une certification de secourisme d'urgence est requise.
