SALARY RANGE:
$19.66/hr - $22.11/hr, 30 hour work week

SUMMARY OF FUNCTION:
Deliver variety of museum programs for children and family groups. Develop museum-based children’s activities, under supervision. Learn and understand provided historical information. Complete research on an assigned topic. Provide excellent customer and client service. Successful candidate will work weekends and holidays during work term. Occupational Health and Safety is a major responsibility of this position. All applicants must be registered in the YCW candidates’ inventory.

Note: Hiring at the TRCA is contingent on the clearance of the Vulnerable Sector Screening. Candidates will be asked for a screening only when they have been selected as the leading candidate.

KNOWLEDGE:
• Registration in history or a related discipline in university. Applicants must be returning to school as a full-time student in fall 2017.
• Experience working with children in a leadership capacity.
• Demonstrated interest in 19th century Canadian history.
• Strong time-management and organizational skills.
• Excellent verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks in a demanding customer-based environment.

SUMMARY OF MAJOR TASKS:
Under general supervision the Canada 150 Activity Programmers will:
1. Deliver public programs during our Canada 150 celebration “Party Like its 1867” and other summer special events.
2. Deliver a wide variety of public programs including interactive discovery stations, artifact discovery program, and interactive Confederation-themed family program. Organize all materials, photographs, and artifacts required for successful delivery of the program. Interact with children, introduce historical themes, and create a fun and inviting atmosphere.
3. Learn and understand information related to life in 19th century Ontario and Confederation. Learn information required to deliver previously designed programs.
4. Research, design and develop one Confederation themed discovery station each using our existing pop-up exhibits as a starting point. Collaborate with staff to gain feedback on existing program, write program plan, create props, and deliver program.
5. Work collaboratively with other Canada 150 Activity Programmers to develop an Activity Guide to Black Creek for families with young children. If time permits, create written proposal for new activity for pre-school aged children.
6. Read minimum of 3 scholarly articles (or equivalent) about Confederation-era Canada. Prepare for and deliver to programming team an oral summary of themes and ideas expressed in the articles.
7. Work with Heritage Programmer to design, create, and maintain props needed for programs.
8. Wear and care for the assigned costume articles and accessories according to the guidelines set out by the Costume Department.
9. Work in a safe manner and follow the safety procedures outlined in the safety manuals.
