The Art Gallery of Burlington is a public art gallery and community art centre located in the heart of Burlington, Ontario. We stage as many as 20 regional, national and international exhibitions a year, and are home to the world’s largest collection of Canadian contemporary ceramics and seven art and fine craft guilds. An interactive and creative space, we provide art and craft education programs and public tours for people of all ages. Spanning
over 44,000 square feet, our space boasts seven fully equipped studios, three galleries, a one of a kind gift shop, a sculpture courtyard and year-round conservatory.

Job Description:
The Art Gallery of Burlington is looking for a temporary full-time Collections Assistant. The student position is offered in partnership with Young Canada Works for the summer.

Duties:
• Create long-term storage containers for works in the Art Gallery of Burlington’s Permanent Collection
• Update condition reports and location files for works in the collection as part of the physical inventory project
• Photograph any works in the collection database that does not have an associated image

The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications:
• Currently enrolled as a full-time student in an undergraduate or post-graduate program with the intent of returning to full-time studies in September 2017. Preference will be given to art history, museum or heritage conservation students
• Experience working in museums or art galleries considered an asset
• Ability to use a digital SLR camera considered an asset
• Highly proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access)
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Detailed oriented with a strong work ethic

The candidate must also be:
• A Canadian citizen or a permanent resident, or have refugee status in Canada
• Legally entitled to work in Canada
• Between the ages of 16 and 30 at the start of employment
• Finished the school term at the start of employment
• Registered in the YCW online candidate inventory
• Willing to commit to the full duration of the project

The candidate must also not have another full-time job (over 30 hours a week) while employed with Young Canada Works.
