The Polygon Gallery exhibits photography and media art, emphasizing contemporary Canadian work within the context of historical and international art. Operating as Presentation House Gallery for forty years, the organization presented more than 300 exhibitions and earned a reputation as one of Canada's most adventurous public art institutions.
In November 2017, the organization opened its new, purpose-built home on the North Vancouver waterfront, elevating a world-class gallery's facility to a level equal with its reputation. As the organization prepares for a major fall exhibition, The Polygon seeks one Exhibitions Assistant to work with the Director of Operations and Exhibition Production on a variety of projects, including (but not limited to): planning, preparation, installation, and maintenance of The Polygon's fall exhibitions, and change-over to the spring exhibition program; setting up gallery spaces for The Polygon and third-party events; acting as a Gallery Attendant, providing institutional security for the art, and educating visitors about the exhibition and related public programs.
The successful candidate will be a recent graduate (within the past 24 months) in studio/visual arts, conservation studies, museum studies or a related discipline, ideally with an interest in and familiarity with visual art. S/he will have extensive experience and interest in art production and a background in art fabrication or equivalent hands-on experience in producing objects with either electronic components, detailed sculptural objects and/or photographic production and framing. Proficiency with hand and power tools is desired.
The successful candidate must be a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident, or have refugee status in Canada; be legally entitled to work in Canada; be between 16 and 30 years of age at the start of employment; and be registered with Young Canada Works online.
