The Estevan Art Gallery & Museum (EAGM) is looking for an energetic individual to assist in creating advances in the dissemination of curatorial theory and further knowledge of contemporary and history Indigenous life in southeast Saskatchewan. This will include an introduction to the day-to-day responsibilities of a Curator, including the organisation of exhibitions from research, writing, selection of works, arranging loans, supervising catalogue production, and designing and supervising installation of exhibitions to preparing publicity and curatorial packages. The Curatorial Intern will also play a key role in the acuisition, de-accession, storage, and exhibitions of works of art and collections, and will work closely with the Director/Curator in all aspects of the position's duties and responsibilities. The successful candidate will primarily work alongside the Director/Curator to complete the redevelopment of the second floor of the North West Mounted Police Museum, this will include research, exhibition writing, exhibition development, installation, etc.

The position will begin on October 9th, 2018, and will end on March 29th, 2019. The work week will run from Monday to Friday. Specific hours will be negotiated, but will continually be a 35-hour work week.

Wage: $15.00/hr

The successful candidate will have educational and practical experience in Canadian History, Indigenous History/Studies, Cultural Studies, or Museum, Gallery, or Curatorial Studies, or related field(s). Previous knowledge or experience with museums/galleries, educational programming, and design will be considered an asset.

The successful applicant will be organised, have the ability to work with diverse audiences, have strong multi-tasking skills, be able to do physical labour, work independently or as part of a team, and have excellent communication skills (both oral and written communication). Knowledge of Windows and MAC operating systems, Microsoft Office Suite, and photo editing software, and a valid driver's license is required.

This internship is made possible through the Young Canada Works Building Careers in Heritage grant. To be eligible for this position the applicant must be a recent graduate of a post-secondary institution within the last 24 months, be under the age of 30, and meet all other requirements set by the Young Canada Works program.
