Design Exchange is seeking to fill the full-time positions of Summer Design Camp Instructors for eight, week-long Design Camps. Summer Design Camp Instructors will work with children and youth, 6 - 14 years of age, on a variety of multi-disciplinary design activities. Instructors will be responsible for daily supervision of students and the delivery of a prepared program in a fun and engaging manner while incorporating their own ideas and insights. The Summer Design Camp Instructors will report to the Programming Supervisor and the Director of Programs will supervise volunteers, interns, and work closely with other members of the Design Camp team.

Job responsibilities:

- supervision of children and youth aged 6 - 14

- instructing students and leading daily design-based projects

- set up and maintain all camp materials

- coordinate with other Instructors


- a passion for the mandate and work of Design Exchange, strong knowledge of design and hands-on skills in creating physical art and design projects in a variety of media

- must be enrolled in a post-secondary design, art, or education program

- must have two years experience working with children or youth, ideally in design

- excellent interpersonal, teamwork, and leadership skills

- patience, understanding, and compassion for children and their parents

- knowledge of Canadian and international design is considered an asset

- a criminal background check is required

- CPR and First Aid certification is required

Successful candidates must meet the eligibility criteria for participation in the Young Canada Works program:

- legally entitled to work in Canada

- a Canadian citizen or permanent resident, or have refugee status in Canada

- note: non-Canadian students holding temporary work visas or awaiting permanent status are not eligible

- between the ages of 16 and 30 years of age at the start of employment

- registered in the YCW on-line candidate inventory

- willing to commit to the full duration of the work assignment

- do not have another full-time job (over 30 hours a week) while employed with YCW

- have been a full-time student (as defined by your educational institution) in the semester preceding the YCW job

- intend to return to full-time studies in the semester following the YCW job.
