Characteristics of City/Region:
Prince Edward County – known locally as simply ‘The County’ – it is an island community on the shores of Lake Ontario with a proud United Empire Loyalist heritage. The County has a way of capturing hearts and imaginations with a combination of rural calmness and authentic sophistication. Our strong agricultural roots, thriving tourism attractions, renowned regional cuisine, and growing wine industry combine to offer a unique and unmatched quality of life for approximately 25,000 residents.
Prince Edward County is well known as a sailing and fishing destination and also boasts the largest freshwater dunes in the world in one of the most beautiful parks in Ontario, Sandbanks Provincial Park.

The County is reportedly the second largest area of Loyalist architecture in North America, second to Williamsburg. A cultural hotspot, this is a place where you can enjoy an abundance of galleries and studios as diverse as the artists themselves. Popular art shows, theatre, music festivals, and events take place in the spring, summer and fall throughout the area.
In recent years The County has been coined as the Gastronomic Capital of Ontario by the Globe and Mail and touted by TIME magazine as one of 52 travel destinations– proof that our longstanding cultivation of and commitment to local food, wine and culture has paid off. The annual TASTE event in September brings thousands of visitors to sample the wares of our cafes and restaurants, roadside stands, artisanal food producers, and wine and spirit purveyors.
Visit us for a short or long vacation and you will want to stay in our vibrant, beautiful community.
