The Architectural Conservancy of Ontario (ACO) Toronto Branch is seeking a conservation
research assistant for the summer of 2017 (May 8 through August 25). The candidate will
have an academic background with demonstrated skill in research and writing in architecture and/or architectural history, with a demonstrated interest in heritage conservation. Knowledge of data base management and archival research would be greatly advantageous.

Having mastered the operation and updating of ACO Toronto's database, TO Built, including how to create links to the City of Toronto’s Inventory of Heritage Properties, the assistant will: (1) ensure that such gaps in architectural information as may exist for properties in areas of Toronto identified by the branch as being under extreme development pressure and neighbourhoods threatened by spot development are included in the database (2) ensure that information for sites in the City of Toronto's Designation and Listing Reports that is not currently online is added to TO Built; and (3) identify, and where feasible, augment existing information about properties within designated Heritage Districts not currently on TO Built, and; (4) assist in developing an launching an outreach program to Toronto’s architecture practitioners to the ways in which TOBuilt and be useful in the course of their own work, and as a means of documenting and preserving a public record of their firm’s projects.

The job is located in downtown Toronto. The assistant will work both at two heritage sites associated with the Toronto Branch, and at various libraries and archives, all in close proximity.
