Rate of pay - $14.00 an hour

The Peachland Chamber of Commerce and Legends of the Lake Interpretive Centre are seeking to hire a post secondary student to lead in the development and promotion of historical exhibits and guided tours within the Legends of the Lake Interpretive Centre, and throughout the local community.

The position is open to all post secondary students. Preference will be given to self motivated students with enhanced organizational and communication skills, outgoing positive attitudes and a love of history.

The applicant must:
• be legally entitled to work in Canada
• be a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident, or have refugee status in Canada
• be between 18 and 30 years of age at the start of employment
• be registered in the YCW on-line candidate inventory
• be willing to commit to the full duration of the work assignment
• not have another full-time job (over 30 hours a week) while employed with YCW

Characteristics of City/Region:
The District of Peachland is a small town community of 5,200 residences located in the stunning Okanagan Valley within the province of British Columbia. With relatively equal distances traveling north to Vernon, and south to Osoyoos, Peachland is becoming known as “The Heart of the Okanagan.” Peachland has 8 kilometers of picturesque waterfront providing public beach and boat access to Okanagan Lake and features a number of unique shops, restaurants and services. A recently re-developed thirteen blocks of paved pathway provides access for people of all ages and abilities to the lake and all of its amenities. Swim Bay, located across from the Peachland Historic Primary School, is a family oriented park with water activities such as rope swing, high diving board and wheelchair accessibility into the lake. The surrounding hills are dotted with vineyards and orchards while supporting horseback riding, hiking, mountain biking and winter activities, including snowmobiling, snowshoeing and Nordic skiing all with spectacular views. Peachland, founded on January 1, 1909, now has cultural and historical assets including a self-guided history tour brochure, the Peachland Historical Mural, an eight sided Baptist Church, now the Peachland Museum, Heritage Park, the cenotaph, The Little Schoolhouse, Peachland Historic Primary School and various heritage buildings along Beach Avenue. Local annual arts and culture events throughout the year include the Peachland Players Theatre productions, the Peachland Art Group Art Show, rotating Art exhibits in the Mary Smith Hall, Farmers and Crafters markets, Artisan Indoor Markets, the Rotary Music in the Park summer concerts, The Historic May Day event, Annual Rubber Ducky Race, Canada Day celebrations, the Fall Fair, Christmas Craft Fair and Christmas Light Up.
