Position: Reference Services Intern (1 position) - Nova Scotia Archives, Halifax NS
Position Start/ End Dates: 29 May – September 1 2017
Qualifications
Candidates must be between 16 and 30 years of age; be Canadian citizens or permanent residents entitled to work in Canada; full-time secondary or post-graduate students returning to school (fall semester, 2017) and registered in the YCW Candidate Inventory (requirements will be verified during recruitment process). Candidates should possess an undergraduate degree, plus demonstrated abilities in general research methodology, data entry, and use of computer hardware and Web applications (eg Windows, Internet Explorer, Microsoft Suite Software,etc.). Some post-secondary or post-graduate training in archival, library or information management fields is desirable. Candidates offering high-school completion and some post-secondary education with the same automation skills may be considered. Strong verbal and written English-language skills required, as well as the ability to work in a busy, multi-tasking, team-oriented environment. Customer-service experience and basic competency in verbal French an asset

Duties
Intern assists in a variety of duties, including but not limited to: assisting researchers in accessing appropriate archival and library holdings; designing preliminary research strategies; using microfilm readers, scanner-printers and computer terminals; placing orders for photocopies or digital scans of holdings; and retrieval and re-shelving of holdings. Intern also carries out routine photocopying and production of microfilm print-outs or digital scans; responds (via telephone, mail or e-mail) to routine incoming information requests; ensures researcher compliance with established guidelines and procedures; and provides research and data entry for special Web-based projects.
Salary: $15.00/ hour plus 4% vacation pay
