Museum Docents communicate historical information in both official languages to groups and individuals using a variety of techniques. This position allows the student to work in a dominantly English community where French is required to communicate with visitors. The Westmorland Historical Society strives to present our diverse history in both official languages and has made great strides in presenting written interpretation in both languages. A fluently bilingual Museum Docent will allow personal guided tours to occur in both languages as well, greatly enhancing the overall visitor experience.
Docents present public talks using illustrative media, engage in casual discussions with visitors and lead guided tours. They are responsible for daily admissions and gift shop sales as well as security of the site. Other tasks, like daily housekeeping chores, are also included.
The ideal candidate will have completed grade 12 and have an interest in local history. They will be fluently bilingual (French and English) and be a leader with enthusiasm that can get along well with others. Public speaking and/or acting experience is an asset.
