Metadata Assistant: Can Link - a linked data project for Canadian theses


The University of Alberta Libraries (UAL) requires a full-time Metadata Assistant: Can Link - a linked data project for Canadian theses for a four month, temporary position. Working under the direction of the Metadata Coordinator, and in close collaboration with project members of the Canadian Linked Data Initiative, the main responsibility of the position will be to use appropriate vocabularies, ontologies, and tools to transform metadata for Canadian theses and dissertations into linked data to provide innovative intellectual access to theses and dissertations from institutions across Canada. The Metadata Assistant will conduct research into appropriate standards for describing theses and dissertations as linked data, and transform metadata from contributing institutions into linked data using appropriate tools and processes. Responsibilities will include documenting chosen vocabularies and ontologies, selecting tools for metadata transformation, documenting processes and workflows, and investigating and recommending a platform or application for making the linked data available. The student will develop skills and gain experience working with linked data standards, tools, and technologies, and will benefit from working on a large, distributed, collaborative project.


Employment Period: May 8, 2017 - August 25, 2017


Pay Rate: $19.21/hr (plus premiums that total approximately $20.93/hr)
