Nature Tours of Yukon Inc. is based in Whitehorse, the capital of Yukon Territory, the most western of
Canada`s Northern territories, bordering Alaska. The company has been incorporated 25 years ago and is the
oldest company holding a Yukon Wilderness Tourism License (a requirement to be allowed to run wilderness tours in the Yukon) which is still operating. During the last 10 years
the company has steadily grown to a sustained yearly revenue of approximately CA$ 500,000 and
momentarily employs 3 full time office staff, next to a seasonal crew of 8-10 guides and assistants.
Next to our long existing portfolio of guided hiking, canoeing and road tours in Yukon, we do offer a considerable
amount of custom tours, as well as high end FIT and incentive packages, which we often guide ourselves. Therefore, we consider ourselves a “hybrid” inbound/receptive operator.
Nature Tours of Yukon Inc. target markets are: Canada, Europe (with emphasis on the French, German and
Spanish speaking areas), Australia/New Zealand and USA. As Yukon is not yet known worldwide as an exciting destination, also due to its remote location, we are still a niche destination. That makes for a challenging, but quite interesting, marketing and sales effort from which a lot may be learned.
Yukon is sparsely populated with a total of about 35,000 inhabitants in an area the size of France, with our
direct neighbors being equally sparsely populated. An approximate 80% of Yukon’s population lives in the
greater Whitehorse area.
Our company is located about 65 km outside of Yukon's capital, in a community called Marsh Lake. There's no amenities here, with the exception of a lively community centre which offers a variety of activities for all ages. Because of the remote location and the limited amount of people living in Yukon, students must anticipate an infrastructure and a level of services much more moderate than they are probably used to. Although people usually live far apart, there is a strong cohesion in the communities and lots of social activities,
creating another perspective on Yukon as a tourist destination.
