2 Positions


The O’Hara Volunteers Association, in conjunction with Quinte Conservation, is looking for mature, independant, well organized and responsible individuals to organize and deliver established programs. As well they will be given responsibility to develop / create new components in conjunction with on site volunteers, that are consistent with the mission and objectives of O’Hara. The Officers will be expected to work alone or together as well as with volunteers to provide heritage programs. These may require the position to be responsible for end to end planning and management of day camps, presentations and demonstrations of various aspects of homestead life in the 1800’s. This may be by following established work plans or researching and creating unique activities.
They will also be expected to deliver and actively engage our visitors in programs that educate our visitors in the plant and animal life of our area. As well these programs are to promote the value of conservation. Theses programs are established programs developed by Quinte Conservation Authority.
On a day to day basis, the positions are also responsible for:
ensuring the maintenance of the grounds and buildings following provided standards. (Eg cleaning, organizing)
Greeting, welcoming and engaging all our visitors to determine their interests in the homestead and provide tours to address them
The officers will be expected to become familiar with and deliver safety information about the trails, and the conditions that should be attended to by everyone, living and working in the outdoors. This will include keeping up to date with information available through the Quinte Conservation Authority and other organizations regarding plants, insects, animals.
They will be expected to communicate and represent O’Hara Mill Homestead effectively utilizing the Association’s Social Media and Web pages.

2. Conditions of Employment:
Working outdoors and indoors (no air conditioning), summer weather
walking, standing, lifting (40lb max)
no food services on site
3. Wages: $14.00 per hour
4. Location of Employment: 638 Mill Road., Madoc, ON
5. Period: July 1 to September 4 Hours are 10:00 am to 4 pm
additional hours as required to accommodate, unique events, bookings and programs.
6. Education Required:
Currently enrollment in post secondary education is preferred.
Successful completion of CPR, First Aid courses (could be completed prior to May 20, 2016)
7. Experience:
Work or life experiences such as volunteer work, school programs, courses, associations, sports, clubs that demonstrates:
the ability to communicate verbally and in writing and to work with other people
the ability to be responsible for completing assigned tasks
the ability to take the initiative where warranted
8. Other Requirements:
to be outgoing and enjoy engaging people in conversation
to wear period costumes / clothing
to consistently comply with the safety requirements provided in training
must be planning to return to continue formal education in the fall of 2014
knowledge of the O’Hara Homestead History (web pages)
9. Language: English (French would be an additional asset)
10. Transportation to and from the work location is to be provided by the successful candidate.
