PROJECT ARCHIVIST: 29 May 2017 - 18 August 2017 (12 weeks)

Job description: Under the direction of the Archivist, the successful candidate will appraise, arrange, describe, scan, and preserve a wide variety of photographs and slides (re formats and subject matter) from the Archives Graphics Collection (approximately 3,500 images prior to appraisal). Additionally, the candidate will, under supervision, select images and write full text and captions on an assigned topic that will result in a new exhibit for the Archives website (www.presbyterianarchives.ca). Our exhibits are designed to further highlight our historical collections to researchers - many of which also serve to highlight major historical themes in our local, provincial, and national history.

The Presbyterian Church in Canada Archives holds a multi-media collection of historically significant records dating back to the 1700's relating to the church across Canada (and including our internationally based mission work). The Archives reflects a busy environment, located at the national office of the denomination, and serving researchers based around the world. Every endeavor will be made to offer the student a full archival experience.

Qualifications: The successful candidate will have completed one year of a degree in archival studies (returning to school in the fall) or will have completed an undergraduate degree in a related field with the intent to further their education in archival studies. The student should be familiar with: archival principles -- appraisal/arrangement/description, RAD, current Copyright law, and the scanning process. Demonstrated computer skills are required. Some previous experience with archival photos and website creation is desirable but not required.

Salary and benefits: $17.00 per hour plus requisite financial benefits for a summer contract.

Applicants should post, e-mail, or fax a covering letter of application along with a resume including three references by Friday April 28, 2017 to:
