The Orangeville Public Library requires two Summer Reading Program Assistants to work on various projects for the Program and Research department. Chosen candidates will have the opportunity to design and develop a summer reading program for children based on the TD Summer Reading Incentive Program guidelines and theme under the guidance of the Program and Research Co-ordinator. The start date of these positions is June 5, 2017 and will run until August 25, 2017. Work will take place at two library locations: the Mill St. Main Library and the Alder St. Branch Library in Orangeville ON.
The position will involve the planning and execution of weekly activities for children 0-12 years of age, participation in data collection and analysis, evaluation of programs, and writing of a final report detailing the 2017 program. Duties will include set up and take down of daily programs, preparation of materials required for activities, leading and participating in programs, daily communication/interaction with summer reading participants and their parents, and other work as assigned.
Previous experience in program planning, working with children, and leadership is preferred. The successful candidate will have knowledge of computers, MS Word and Excel. Students must be enrolled full-time in a post-secondary education program and returning to full-time post-secondary studies in the fall. Enrollment in a program related to children’s programming or librarianship including education, child and youth development, or library and information studies is considered an asset.
