The Centre de La Mi-Careme is a place that promotes and interprets the Acadian tradition of La Mi-Careme. Please visit our website to learn more about this tradition (www.micareme.ca). Your job as an Artisan's Assistant/Interpreter will be to help in making masks and crafts for our gift shop. You will utilize your current artist skills as well as undergoing training by our senior artisans on staff to create beautiful masks that represent this age old tradition. You will also assist in mask making workshops with children and adults students as well as interpret the tradition of La Mi-Careme to the visiting public. Every summer we host a Masque et Mer Festival where we invite the community and tourists to a experience many local cultural activities. You will be a big part of participating in this festival. You must feel comfortable in dressing in disguise (ie. being a Mi-Careme) and learning the tradition. We are looking for candidates that have proven artistic abilities (drawing/painting or crafting) either through school or hobbies. Bilingual candidates are preferred. You will be living on the world famous Cabot Trail in the french Acadian Region of Cheticamp/Grand Etang/St.Joesph du Moine of Nova Scotia. You are only minutes from Cape Breton Highlands National Park and it's hiking trails, and many beaches with the warm waters of the Gulf of St. Lawrence. If you are not from the area, a vehicle is recommended as there is no public transit.
