The Centre de La Mi-Careme is a place that promotes and interprets the old Acadian tradition of La Mi-Careme. Please visit our website to learn more about this tradition (www.micareme.ca). Your job as an Interpreter Dancer/Musician will be to present the age old tradition of La Mi-Careme through story/dance or music. You will utilize your current Acadian step dancing skills (or be willing to learn) and/or musical talent (fiddle/acoustic guitar) as well as undergoing training by our senior interpreters on staff to present this tradition activity of La Mi-Careme. You will assist the Centre manager in some marketing and promotional tasks, and to keep the centre tidy for visitors. You will also assist in other areas of the Centre when required due to days off of the other students (cafe, and workshops). Every summer we host a Masque et Mer Festival where we invite the community and tourists to a experience many local cultural activities. You will be a big part of participating in this festival. You must feel comfortable in dressing in disguise (ie. being a Mi-Careme) and learning the tradition. We are looking for candidates that have proven dance/music abilities either through school or hobbies. Bilingual candidates are required. You will be living on the world famous Cabot Trail in the french Acadian Region of Cheticamp/Grand Etang/St.Joesph du Moine of Nova Scotia. You are only minutes from Cape Breton Highlands National Park and it's hiking trails, and many beaches with the warm waters of the Gulf of St. Lawrence. If you are not from the area, a vehicle is recommended as there is no public transit.
