Job Description: Day Camp Director

Seasonal. Monday to Friday 8:00am to 5:00pm. This is a 9 week position paying $11.85/hour, starting June 18 - August 17th.

Reporting: This position reports to the Director of Programming and Active Living.

Description Overview: The position of Day Camp Director is to ensure that the overall Day camp program is meeting the goals and objectives for the program. The Day Camp Director is the Day Camp team leader. The Day Camp Director has the responsibility to ensure that all the children at the day camp have a positive recreation experience while in their care.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

(a) To be responsible to ensure that the Day Camp Counselors are achieving the Day Camp Goals and Objective and have the proper equipment and knowledge to perform their duties.

(b) To be the liaison between the day camp and the parents.

(c) To be a caring adult and a role model for the children.

(d) To ensure that the physical and emotional safety of the children are met.

(e) To help children make new friends.

(f) To provide a variety of activities for different age groups and skill levels.

(g) To welcome diversity and uniqueness.

(h) To be a valuable team member amongst the day camp staff.

(i) To participate with the children as well as encourage participation from all children. Using a variety of methods to ensure the maximum participation is achieved. (i.e.: smaller groups, more equipment, maximum use of space).

(j) To abide by Day Camp Policies and Procedures

(k) To help in the preparation and evaluation of each day with other members of the day camp staff.

(l) To participate in a mid-summer evaluation as well as a year-end evaluation of the program.

(m) To perform other duties as required.

Qualifications: The students will preferably be recruited from the fields of Bachelor of Education, Social Services, Recreation, Kinesiology, and Physical Education. The elements of these fields of study are related to youth and recreation and will provide real life experiences for these students. The candidates must possess strong leadership skills as well as good communication, organization, coordinating, prioritization and time management skills. They must have the ability to work independently as well as a team member. They must be dedicated and self-motivated. Any previous work experience with children would be an asset. The candidates must be fluently bilingual in both French and English. The candidates should have a valid Driver's License and must be between 16 and 30 years of age.
