The Dufferin County Museum & Archives requires a Archives Summer Student. The start date for this position is Tuesday, May 9th, 2016 and the end date is Saturday, August 26th. The successful applicant will use the PastPerfect database to catalogue the "W.J. Hughes Cornflower" archival collection and the Music collection. The student will also research "Food & Facade" and assist the Education Program Co-ordinator with research on archival items in the education collection.

-The candidate must be currently enrolled in a Post-Secondary University or College program, with the intention of returning to school in September 2017. The preferred candidate for this position will be a student enrolled in a University Bachelor of Arts Program (History, Archeology or Related Study) or an Archival Studies or Museum Studies Diploma Program or a Records Management Program with the intention of returning to school in the following semester.

Note: This position is subject to the receipt of a Young Canada Works (YCW) grant. YCW applicants must be under 30, Canadian Citizens or Permanent Residents, and returning to school in September.

The following skills are requested for this position:

-Basic knowledge of Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

-Experience with PastPerfect Software is an asset (not required)

-Must be able to lift and move artifacts, up to 25 lbs.

-Must be able to read handwritten documents

-The ideal candidate will demonstrate a strong interest and desire to work in archives

-Ability to establish priorities and effectively handle multiple tasks with attention to detail

-Highly energetic with excellent communication skills

-Ability to self-motivate and work collaboratively

-The student will require access to a vehicle, as there is no public transportation available to this job site.
