The Memorial University Folklore and Language Archive (MUNFLA) was a joint creation of the departments of Folklore and English and was established in 1968 to co-ordinate diverse research in Newfoundland studies undertaken in both departments, to facilitate the mutual use of common material, to organize it for research and publication, and to create a permanent record for future generations.


MUNFLA is an integral part of the teaching and research activities of the Department of Folklore at both the graduate and undergraduate levels and is seeking an Archival Assistant.



DUTIES

The successful applicant will perform, under the direction of the Archivist, responsible professional and technical work in a university archive which specializes in multi-media collections. Work involves the arrangement and description of archival accessions, the physical maintenance of the archive, the security of the archive collections and providing assistance to patrons in the use of the archive.


QUALIFICATIONS


The ideal candidate for this position would have a background in the discipline of Folklore with considerable knowledge of all its various genres. A familiarity with, and enthusiasm for, archival practices would also be an asset, although training would be provided as necessary. The candidate should also be proficient in basic computer skills with a willingness to learn various digitization methods as required.
