Library and Research Assistant
The Okanagan Nation Alliance (ONA) is the Tribal Council for the eight member communities of the Okanagan Nation which include Osoyoos Indian Band, Upper Nicola Band, Upper and Lower Similkameen Indian Bands, Penticton Indian Band, Westbank First Nation, Okanagan Indian Band and the Colville Confederated Tribes. The ONA’s mandate is to advance, assert, support and preserve Okanagan Nation title and rights. Further, the ONA is charged with providing members with a forum to discuss and form positions on areas of common concern.
The Okanagan Nation Alliance is currently seeking a post-secondary student to fill a Library and Research Assistant short-term position within their Natural Resource Department. The successful applicant will receive training on library procedures and conducting research specific to an Indigenous (Okanagan) context. This work will contribute to the preservation of valuable information in a variety of formats and support cultural heritage resource management for the ONA and local communities.
Start Date: December 18, 2017
End Date: March 30, 2018
Wage: $15.00 per hour
Qualifications:
- Understanding of library procedures and policies. Training in library operations will be provided.
- Practical experience with computers is essential. Training for specific programs will be provided.
- Understanding of Syilx (Okanagan) or Interior Salish cultural heritage, traditional hunting and gathering practices and food and medicines is an asset.
