Fort Steele is Heritage Town is a diverse site that comprises over 60 buildings on a town site steeped in the history of the East Kootenays. Fort Steele interprets the various aspects of the Town in the era of the late 1800’s including heritage trades, commercial enterprises, and significant personalities from its history.

The curatorial responsibilities of the site includes historic and reproduction buildings, significant collections on exhibit, and collections in storage. Curatorial is responsible for all aspects of interpretation from the selection and care of period artifacts, buildings, and archives, and is also responsible for accurate representation by our actors and interpretive staff

Fort Steele Heritage Town is looking for a Curatorial Intern to help with the ongoing interpretation of our site through new and exciting displays in our renovated museum as well as the continuing artifact inventory of the site collection. The selected candidate will gain hands-on experience in exhibit development, curatorial research, museum database software, preventive and treatment conservation, and archive management.

Duties and Responsibilities
-Research, plan, and install two new displays in the Museum
-Photograph, document, and ensure accurate information of artifacts in PastPerfect software.
-Clean and close heritage buildings in preparation for Winter season.
-Re-structuring of Museum archives into standardised system.

Qualifications
-Be between 16 and 30 years of age at the start of employment.
-Recent graduate who has graduated from college or university within the last 24 months at the start of employment.
-Preference given to candidates with a background in History, Museum Studies or related field.
-Knowledge of BC history an asset.

Duration: 16 weeks (November 20, 2017 to March 9, 2018)
Salary: $16/hr 40 hours/week
