Position: Community Arts Intern

Supervision: The Community Arts Intern reports to the Jumblies Theatre Artistic and Managing Director

Start Date: September 18, 2017

End Date: February 16, 2018

(with a two week hiatus, December 25, 2017 to January 5, 2018)

Employment Terms:
This is a 20-week salaried position. The Intern will be paid $480 per week gross, representing an average of 30 hours per week at a $16.00 per hour rate. Jumblies will include 4% vacation pay in each pay cheque, and deduct mandatory employment-related costs.

Responsibilities:

With direction from the Artistic Director and support from Jumblies and Jumblies Offshoot Artist/Mentors, the Community Arts Intern will:
- Participate, with emerging arts leaders, in Jumblies Studio training workshops
- Collaborate in planning, facilitating and evaluating arts workshops that engage community members of diverse cultural backgrounds and range of abilities
- Design, plan and undertake an individual project (arts or administration based, as per the Intern’s interests), carried out within the context of Jumblies and/or Offshoot activities
- Assist in coordinating outreach and participant support activities
- Assist in maintaining participant intake, tracking and evaluation systems and files
- Assist in workshop coordination - schedules, venues, participant and staff transportation, food, workshop set-up and strike
- Assist in maintaining an up-to-date and accurate contact database
- Participate in facilitating community engagement in producing Jumblies and/or Offshoot productions and presentations
- Assist in marketing and promotion campaigns for Jumblies Projects, Jumblies Studio, and Jumblies Offshoots events, courses, presentations, seminars and internships
- Participate in Internship orientation, planning and evaluation processes
- Manage a petty cash float and provide work log activity reports

Qualifications:

- Certificate or degree from college, university or CEGEP in Theatre Arts/Production, Visual Arts, Music/Composition, Dance/Movement, Arts Administration, and/or a relevant related field in social services or community development
- Well-developed computer skills (email, Word and Excel required at a minimum)
- Basic English (other languages an asset)
- Prior experience in an arts-producing setting
- Demonstrated quality of work undertaken/produced
- Demonstrated interest in the community arts field
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively, and to seek timely and appropriate direction
- Highly developed organizational skills
- Experience working in culturally diverse settings
- Excellent social and communication skills
- Some flexibility regarding work hours and possible travel

The primary location of the internship will be Jumblies’ studio in downtown Toronto, The Ground Floor, with occasional work placements with colleagues in East Scarborough, Parkdale, Etobicoke, Davenport Perth, and possibly out of town on occasion.
