The New Brunswick Museum (NBM) is the oldest continuing museum in Canada. It is the major provincial repository for material relating to the natural, human and cultural heritage of New Brunswick. The Archives & Research Library of the Museum requires an individual to serve as an archival assistant for the period of May 8th, 2017 to Aug. 25th , 2017.
The candidate will be required to scan photographs from the historical photograph collection and add them to existing records in the photographic database. The incumbent will also be required to assist with the arrangement and description of an archival fonds using the Rules of Archival Description (RAD), provide reference service to patrons, and to respond to e-mail and correspondence inquiries.
Candidates would ideally be a student enrolled in an archival studies program or a university student majoring in history. Excellent interpersonal, communication and research skills are required.
Both English and French language skills are required.
The incumbent must be able to read cursive writing.
Computer skills should include Microsoft Word. Familiarity with RAD and the Inmagic database would be an asset.
