Do you like old equipment and are you passionate about preserving the heritage of the early sound recording industry and wave technology? The Emile Berliner Sound and Image Archive project wants to allow all Canadian's through an online portal to enjoy the music treasures of the past in sound and image - but with a twist: what role did the technology play in sound recording and how can we include this aspect in our project. We need help for this from an energetic person, open to think outside the box. You need to like going through our large historic disc and album collection, learn what are the values of a recording and the artwork of labels and record sleeves, be matriculate in keeping track of your work and like to collaborate with academics and non-academics.
The fitting candidate should have an interest in the recording and music industry, with a background in archive studies, museum studies, art history, sound technology, music history or similar academic fields. Good computer skills on different platforms (PC, Mac, smartphones, tablets) are mandatory. The applicant should have an outgoing character and good social skills. The museum is encouraging applications from candidates of all minorities. However, good hearing is mandatory. Because of the historic character of the building, good mobility is an asset.
The Musée des ondes Emile Berliner is close to the Place Saint Henri Metro Station in Montreal’s South-West borough, just a few minutes away from downtown Montreal.

The intership is from October 5 2017 to February 9 2018. The salary is 13$/h
