Project Background:
Canada's Sports Hall of Fame is seeking the assistance of one intern to help with various aspects of five major exhibitions that are being created in celebration of Canada's 150th Anniversary. This internship will provide an excellent opportunity for hands-on training in exhibit development.
The intern will assist with the tasks below as noted for each exhibit:
Canada 150 artefact exhibit
-Develop Exhibit Plan
-Make Artefact mounts for 16 artefacts
-Produce 16 bi-lingual artefact labels
-Coordinate the translation of 16 artefacts as required
-Install artefacts into display case with other curatorial staff
-Complete 16 condition reports
-Liaise with three lending institutions to obtain permission to borrow artefacts, coordinate the loan, loan paperwork, insurance, etc.
Hometown Hockey
-Make artefact mounts for approximately 20 artefacts
-Produce 20 bilingual artefact labels
-Create an installation manual for the exhibit
Arctic Winter Games
-Work with museum partners to establish exhibit plan
-Liaise with potential artefact donors/contributors
-Research AWG sports
-Write artefact labels for at least 30 artefacts
-Create the exhibition travel plan and installation manual
Play Hard, Fight Hard: Sport and the Canadian Military
-Develop the installation manual
-Complete condition reports and take photos of all artefacts (approximately 75)
Olympic/Paralympic Games 2018 exhibit
-Research and write graphic panels for 12 Olympic/Paralympic athletes as identified by our Canadian Olympic Committee (COC)/Canadian Paralympic Committee (CPC) partners
-Coordinate the borrowing of artefacts, shipping, receiving, condition reports, photos, and installation.
-Write artefact labels for at least 25 artefacts
-Produce 25 bilingual artefact labels
-Prepare and submit loan agreements and manage loan values for insurance
-Assist with the exhibit installation.
Qualifications:
The successful candidate should be a graduate of a museum studies, conservation, collections management, sport history program or sport/recreation management program within the past five years. The candidate should have a diploma or degree and must be between the ages of 18-30. Candidates should also have excellent writing skills, organizational skills and an ability to work in a fast-paced environment and be able to meet deliverables. Candidates must also be well organized, independent workers and have intermediate to advanced computer skills (database management software for museums, Microsoft office).
Previous exhibit or collections management experience is required.
Membership with a professional association would be a definite asset.
Interviews will be conducted by the Director, Exhibits and Programming and Manager, Exhibits and Collections. All candidates will be screened to ensure they meet all YCW eligibility requirements before being interviewed and before hiring the chosen candidate.
