The Huron County Museum and Historic Gaol requires a COMMUNITY OUTREACH & PROGRAMS INTERN.

The Huron County Museum has a temporary employment opportunity available for October 2017 to March 2018. This position will assist with educational, family and children's programming at the Huron County Museum and the Huron Historic Gaol, as well as offsite outreach and special events. This position will focus on building partnerships with local First Nations communities and educators to develop museum programs, activities and gallery interactives that celebrate and share local First Nations heritage and culture, and highlight traditional and ongoing stewardship of the land.

Hours of work:
October through March, 35 hours a week as scheduled.
Hours of work generally fall within 9:00 am to 5:00 pm; evening and weekend work may be required

Qualifications:
-University or College degree in Education, Museum Studies, History, Public History, Indigenous Studies or related field
-Interest in local history and enthusiasm to share local culture and heritage with the public, and to collaboratively facilitate platforms for others to tell their stories
-Interest or specialty in indigenous history or heritage, particularly understanding of treaty histories in Ontario and familiarity with Anishinaabe culture
-Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
-Experience working with elementary-aged children
-Proficient with Micrsoft suite of office programs
-Valid Ontario driver's license
-Experience working with cash an asset

The Huron County Museum is located in Goderich, Ontario: the county seat of Huron County, and a town of 8,000 residents located on Lake Huron. The museum endeavours to tell the stories of Huron County via a variety of methods, including the thousands of community-donated artefacts displayed in our temporary and permanent exhibits. This position is partially funded by Young Canada Works at Building Careers in Heritage. Candidates must be:
-registered with the Young Canada Works candidate inventory
-recent graduates (within 2 years/24 months)
-under 30 years of age
-eligible to work in Canada
