The successful Young Canada Works (YCW) intern will develop online and physical exhibits to support teaching and learning objectives and to plan for public events that focus on the UDHR and its creator. We also anticipate submitting a SSHRC Connections Grant application for a conference held 16 March 2018.
Under close supervision, the intern will be tasked with the following project objectives:
• Assistance with the selection and layout of content for online exhibit for the 70th anniversary of the UDHR
• Assistance with the creation of text to support the archival fonds for the online exhibit
• Preparation, including metadata for digitization and a MARC record, of archival materials for in-house digitization
• Support for Digital Initiatives in the digitization of the archival fonds and in the setting up of the touch table and online exhibit
• Updating the current finding aid to ensure compliance with Canadian archival standards
• Support for Collection Services to enter data into AtoM (an open source arachival management software system) for discoverability and creation of a finding aid
• Identification and analysis of related archival materials to compliment the John Peters Humphreys fonds and the UDHR
• Assistance with conference, including preparation for a SSHRC Connections Gr
Candidate Profile:
• Completion of Information Studies, Archival Studies or Library Studies
• Proficient in software applications such as Drupal, Access, Adobe and Office Suite
• Experience in care and handling of archival records
• Strong research, analysis and organizational skills
• Excellent oral and written skills; ability to read and write in English and French
• Ability to work independently and in a team environment
