Description:
Les Amis des Jardins de Métis is seeking an assistant to the curator to prepare an exciting new exhibition and publication for 2018 and the 200th anniversity of the communty. The successful applicant will be part of a team working to prepare an innovative project that will illustrate in text, images and stories and an in situ exhibition the unique story of the community and its role in the development of the region.

Skills Required
The candidate will have a range of skills that will include digital and on-site research, documenting and writing for a general audience. The candidate will have a proven record of research in the fields of history, art history, regional development or associated fields.

Place of employment
The place of employment is Les Jardins de Métis, a national historic site located in Grand-Métis, Québec in the Lower St. Lawrence region. The job will require travel to or from local research institutions in Rimouski and Métis-sur-Mer. The intern will also accompany the curator on a research tour to institutions in Montréal and Ottawa to examine material and iconography to be used for the catalogue and publication.

Salary and Working Conditions
The salary offered is $14 per hour for a 40 hour work week + 4% for vacation pay for 35 weeks (May 15 to December 22) The candidate will be provided with a laptop computer and work station in the administrative offices at Les Jardins de Métis. The work environment allows the intern access to the organization's extensive archive of documents and images and a Library and documentation centre with more than 2,000 volumes. The garden's host a wide range of cultural events and activities and the intern will be encouraged to take full advantage of the calendar of cultural events on offer. The intern will join a team of experienced professionals but also be part of a crew of Young and dynamic youth who are interns in other fields (architecture, landscape architecture, visual arts and horticulture) during the May to August period.
