The Art Museum at the University of Toronto (comprised of the federated Justina M. Barnicke Gallery and the University of Toronto Art Centre) is seeking an Community Engagement Assistant to assist in the research, organization and coordination of our outreach activities during the summer and planning for the fall. The position is a 37.5 hour work week, at $15/hour, from May to August.

The ideal candidate for the position of Community Engagement Assistant will have a background and demonstrated knowledge – through education and volunteer or previous employment – in contemporary and early 20th century Canadian art. They are currently enrolled in post-secondary studies and are intending to return to school in the fall semester, preferably in the field of art history or museum studies.

The candidate will bring excellent communication and organizational skills, as well as the ability to work independently and in a team, with an emphasis on critical thinking, information accuracy and enthusiasm for contemporary Canadian art and history. The candidate will have proven experience with detailed contemporary art research, and is able to process information in a variety of formats, use databases, and present findings. Prior experience in administration and as an educator in a gallery or museum context is an assist.
