Come work at one of the most unique places in Edmonton! Do you love making a scene? Would you enjoy using your performance skills to help bring Edmonton’s vibrant history to life? Fort Edmonton Park is looking for energetic and talented people to join the team as a member of the Entertainment Unit Seasonal Drama Troupe. Working with our Artistic Director Dana Andersen, you’ll be responsible for creating fun and exciting street performances, musical acts and entertainment at one of Edmonton’s most popular attractions! This is a unique role for someone who loves working with, and performing for, the public; and who has the creativity to conceive amazing visitor experiences and the commitment to see them through from start to finish.
DRAMA TROUPE MEMBERS WILL:
Perform in costume, primarily outdoors, in a variety of entertainment activities including but not limited to: variety shows, musical numbers, puppet shows, and theatre for young audiences.
Provide a dramatic interpretive presence on 1920s street and the Midway at Fort Edmonton Park using various methods of audience engagement.
Work collaboratively with the Artistic Director (AD) of the Entertainment Unit to create, design, and implement entertainment and programming throughout Fort Edmonton Park for weekdays, enhanced weekends, Signature Events, and after hours programming.
Host programs and events at the Capitol Theatre
Assist with Midway attractions operations and site animation when necessary
Assist in outlining and sourcing appropriate props, costumes, and program supplies
Attend meetings, collect statistical information and provide reports
Respond to customer concerns and requests for information ensuring excellence in customer service and quality delivery
Assist with overseeing Drama Troupe volunteers, working in collaboration with Volunteer Services
Be willing to sign a photographic consent form
Completion of the 12th grade
Enrolment in, or completion of, a post secondary program in Performing Arts. A combination of education and experience will be considered
Experience in theatrical script writing, character development, and public performance
Highly developed and demonstrable verbal and written communication, interpersonal, public performance, and customer service skills
Strong ensemble skills are necessary
Knowledge of Western Canadian History an asset
Experience working in a living history or museum environment is an asset.
Experience working with volunteers is an asset.
Ability to play a musical instrument is an asset
Second language is an asset
Possession of current Standard First Aid and CPR/ AED certifications prior to commencement of employment is required
Applicants will be required to arrange their own transportation including on holidays, evenings and weekends
A security clearance is a condition of employment. The successful candidate must obtain a Police Check including a vulnerable sector check from the Edmonton Police Service prior to employment.
This position is not eligible under Actors Equity.
HOURS OF WORK/WAGE
This is a seasonal position.
Up to 32 hours a week during summer season. Weekends, evening, and holiday work is required during high volume work periods.
