Position: Archival Assistant Intern (1 position) - Nova Scotia Archives, Halifax NS
Position Start/End Dates: 31 July 2017 - 23 February 2018
Qualifications:
Candidates must be between 16 and 30 years of age; be Canadian citizens or permanent residents entitled to work in Canada; recent graduates of an accredited educational institution and registered in the YCW Candidate Inventory (requirements will be verified during recruitment process). Candidates should possess and undergraduate degree, plus demonstrated abilities in the archival functions of appraisal, arrangement and description, and use of computer hardware and Web applications (eg. Windows, Internet Explorer, Microsoft Suites Software, ICA AtoM, etc.). Some post-secondary or post-graduate training in archival, library or information management fields is desirable. Strong verbal and written English-language skills required, as well as the ability to work in a busy, multi-tasking, team-oriented environment.
Duties
Intern conducts and/or assists in a variety of duties, including but not limited to:
- physically processing, and listing acquisitions in preparation for arrangement and description
-identification of preservation issues and access, privacy or donor concerns
- assisting in arrangement and description of backlogged acquisitions
- assisting in preparation of acquisitions for monetary appraisal
- assisting in preparation of RAD compliant fonds and series level descriptions for entry into Memory NS and Archives Canada
Salary: $19.00/ hour plus 4% vacation pay
