Characteristics of City/Region

Grey Roots Museum & Archives <www.greyroots.com> is a 39,000 square foot facility on 20 acres. In addition to the Museum & Archives, we also house Grey County Tourism and Economic Development <www.visitgrey.ca>. We are currently developing a Heritage Village on site <http://www.greyroots.com/visiting/heritage-village/>. We are located just south of Owen Sound which was designated as a Cultural Capital of Canada in 2004. Grey Roots is hosts or is involved with a number of community events and school events, such as, but not limited to WWI Education Day, Moreston Grand Opening, the 155th Emancipation Celebration Festival and Pratie Oaten. Also see http://www.osblackhistory.com/ which mentions our exhibit From Slavery to Freedom: African Canadians in Grey County. Owen Sound, a friendly city, is the hub of a dominantly agricultural, rural community, but where business and industry also has a presence. Owen Sound is popular as a place to retire to, which its demographics reflect.
