University of Alberta Vascular Plant Herbarium:
This is a 24 week position, running from October 2017 to March 2018. The rate of pay is $18.07 per hour, based on a 35 hour week, plus 4% vacation pay and statutory holiday pay. As this position is funded by Young Canada Works at Building Careers in Heritage, in order to be eligible, candidates must be recent graduates, between the ages of 16 and 30 and be Canadian citizens or permanent residents entitled to work in Canada.
The Herbarium Assistant would participate in all aspects of research and curation at the University of Alberta Vascular Plant Herbarium including archival preparation and imaging, data-basing and geo-referencing of collection data, integrated pest management, preparation of loans and exchanges, and assisting visitors to the collection. They would participate in the following projects: data-basing, imaging and citizen science data-basing; an international Linguistics Ethno-botanical research project with University of Alberta linguists and a First Nations community; and, field collection of botanical specimens.
