ACORN Canada Community Organizer

ACORN Canada is looking for a motivated individual interested in organizing French-speaking low-income individuals and families in Montreal, to build community capacity and develop leadership skills. The individual will also establish and coordinate initiatives to improve the organization’s accessibility and visibility in the Montreal Francophone community, and expand the reach of our community development campaigns.

The successful candidates for Montreal ACORN will work out of ACORN Canada’s Montreal office, doing some outreach in surrounding neighbourhoods within the city. The position will run over the summer for 16 weeks, starting May 1 and ending August 25.

This position is 40 hours/week at an hourly wage of $12.00. There is one position available.

The successful candidate will be fluent in French and keen to improve both spoken and written French skills. Familiarity with Microsoft Office applications is required. A working knowledge of web applications such as Drupal, and experience managing social media applications – specifically Facebook and Twitter - is an asset.

The job will include direct contact with community members, phone banking, helping our membership plan meetings and help develop community improvement strategies and solutions. It will also include translation of organizational materials, outreach to potential allies and Francophone organizations, and identification of and application to funding opportunities. All of these activities will ideally be conducted in French.

No experience is required. Professional organizing training will be provided.

ACORN Canada is made up of more than 100,000 low- and moderate-income member families, in 21 local chapters of ACORN throughout the country, organized democratically through community organizing. We are Canada's largest grassroots community organization for low and moderate income families.

Candidates can apply by emailing onacornot@acorncanada.org. Applications are due by April 26, 2017.
