Location: Cape Forchu Lighthouse, Yarmouth County, Nova Scotia
18 weeks at 40 hours/ week. $14.00/hour

An opportunity to help preserve the cultural history of the Cape Forchu Lighthouse, one of
Canada’s Registered Historic Sites, established in 1839 and gain valuable skills in archival
studies
Duties:
Research, authenticate and describe recent and past acquisitions such as maps,
photographs, light keepers journals, shipwreck artifacts, fishing and light keeping
equipment. Photograph, catalogue and enter all information on a computer using an
reference. Assist patrons and staff with research. Assist colleagues create informative and
entertaining presentations.
Qualifications:
The successful candidate will be attending university and have completed university courses in history, archival studies, museum studies or cultural/historical studies and will be
competent in all Microsoft Office computer applications especially MSWord and Excel. The
candidate must have excellent communication and research skills and be able to use a
camera. Knowledge of the history and culture of Yarmouth County, Nova Scotia will be
considered an asset, along with experience in customer service and a knowledge of French.

Must be a full-time student returning to or entering in an education program at a recognized university in the fall of 2017. Must be dependable,self-motivated and be able to work
independently with limited supervision. Must be legally entitled to work in Canada, between the ages of 16 and 30 years, and without another full-time job.

The Cape Forchu Lightstation consists of three structures: a double dwelling house which
was built in 1912, an "apple core" style light tower built in 1962 and a concrete fog alarm
building also constructed in 1962. It is located at the extreme southern tip of Cape Forchu,
in Yarmouth County, Nova Scotia. It is approximately 15 minutes outside of the town of Yarmouth. The lighthouse is situated atop of volcanic rock and fields and is surrounded by the Yarmouth Harbour on one side and False Harbour on the other. It is Yarmouth biggest tourist attraction.
