Short Description: To catalogue the Standard Newspaper Photographic collections, document photographs, carry out research, and undertake basic preservation and digitization of images and review of photographic descriptions.
Duties and Responsibilities: - Maintain comprehensive and accurate collection records and the storage of artifacts - Organize, arrange and accession artifacts and archival materials, and prepare catalogue classifications and finding aids - Store artifact and manage locations by means of up-to-date inventory controls - Carry out research applicable to cataloguing artifacts - Handle and clean artifacts according to accepted museum procedures - Prepare Condition / Treatment Reports and undertake basic conservation of artifacts - Monitor and maintain a safe work area - Carry out the scanning of archival photographic negatives, manipulate and store digital images - Process orders for digitally reproduced photographs and prepare invoices.
Qualifications: Enrolled in a full-time, post-secondary studies and returning to full-time studies in the fall 2017, and must provide a supporting confirmation letter from your Registrar’s Office - Must be eligible to work in Canada, be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident and be between the ages of 16-30 years - Neat, legible handwriting - Attention to detail and accurate in recording information - Understanding of museum classifications systems and processes - Experience in archival management, photography and databases - Good organizational & research skills - Knowledge of the creation, manipulation and storage of digital images - Knowledge of St. Catharines with an interest in community history and the Welland Canals - Effective written and verbal communication - Self-motivated, as well as the ability to work in a group.
