The Curatorial Assistant will help operate the museum and support the organization’s special events and programming. In accordance with the museum’s procedures, the successful applicant will: work together with staff and volunteers on special events; maintain site cleanliness and gardens; respond to inquiries concerning museum events, programs and local attractions; create and distribute advertising and media releases; assist with collection maintenance and management; assist with the creation of new exhibits.

Ability to deal effectively with the public and volunteers in a pleasant and professional manner
Strong interpersonal skills with a keen desire to work closely with volunteers, the public and heritage/museum professionals
Ability to function effectively while multi-tasking in a busy workplace
Attention to detail
Demonstrated reliability
Strong organizational and leadership skills
Excellent verbal and written English communication skills
Familiarity with Ontario history
Proficiency with MS Office and Adobe Photoshop
Understanding of advertising and marketing
Candidates with education in museums or history preferred
College or university level tourism, marketing, advertising, public relations or equivalent experience an asset
Familiarity with heritage crafts and skills an asset
Must meet YCW program eligibility criteria
· are a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident, or have refugee status in Canada; Note: Non-Canadian students holding temporary work visas or awaiting permanent status are not eligible.
· are legally entitled to work in Canada;
· will be between 16 and 30 years of age at the start of employment;
· are willing to commit to the full duration of the work assignment;
· will not have another full-time job (over 30 hours a week) while employed with YCW;
· have been a full-time student (as defined by your educational institution) in the semester preceding the YCW job;
· intend to return to full-time studies in the semester following the YCW job

Priority will be given to students who have never participated in the YCW-HO program in previous years. The Department of Canadian Heritage now required all YCW participants to be pre-approved by the delivery organization (Canadian Museums Association).
