Heritage Assistant, Oliver and District Heritage Society
5 days a week, 7 hours per day
Language of work: English (required); French or other language(s) would be an asset.
The Oliver and District Heritage Society (www.oliverheritage.ca) operates a Museum and Archives in Oliver, BC, a rural town in the South Okanagan Valley known for its agriculture production – particularly fruit and wine. Nearby communities include Osoyoos, Penticton, Kaleden, and Kelowna.
The successful applicant will be a part of a team performing daily tasks as required in a Museum and Archives. These daily tasks may include, but are not limited to: leading heritage walking tours, assisting researchers, working with artifact and archival collections (preservation, cataloguing, digitization, etc.), office duties/office administration, and assisting visitors and tourists. There may also be opportunity to participate in special projects such as public presentations, community outreach, exhibit building, and program development as time and skillsets permit.
We are pleased to accept applications from students in any related field of studies, but will prefer candidates with an intention to work in the fields of museums/archives, information management, cultural management, heritage resource management, conservation, interpretation or education. An interest in heritage, history, conservation or research would be preferred.
