The Montreal Holocaust Museum educates people of all ages and backgrounds about the Holocaust, while sensitizing the public to the universal perils of antisemitism, racism, hate and indifference through its Museum, its commemorative programs and educational initiatives. The Museum promotes our collective responsibility towards respect for diversity.

The MHM is seeking an Archivist and Museum Assistant to take primary responsibility in the digitization, preservation and documentation of the Montreal Holocaust Museum’s collection. He or she will report to the Museum and Collections Coordinator. This is a full time position for a six month contract.

Requirements:
• Relevant university degree, preferably in Museum Studies
• Bilingual, with excellent oral and written communications skills in both languages
• Experience in collection management
• Excellent computer skills. Database management skills, preferably in File Maker. Knowledge of InfoMuse and Artefacts Canada
• Knowledge and interest in the history of the Holocaust
• Digital technology expertise
• Project management skills
• Rigorous and detail oriented
• Responsible, team oriented, organisational skills

Responsibilities
1. The Archivist is responsible for implementing policies and procedures that relate to:
• Accessioning, documenting, cataloguing and digitizing objects in the collection;
• Monitoring safety and condition of objects on display and in storage;
• Maintaining records of ownership and managing loan agreements.
2. The Archivist
• Contributes to the development of exhibitions and interpretative tools by his/her knowledge of the collection;
• Is responsible for the outreach, coordination and logistics relating to the booking of the MHM’s traveling exhibits;
• Contributes to the smooth functioning of the Museum as required.
