The Newfoundland Historic Trust (www.historictrust.ca) is seeking a post-secondary student to work with participating sites and communities to ensure they are able to offer visitors well-interpreted access to sites during Doors Open Days events. The Coordinator will start immediately to organize Doors Open Days and to assist other interested communities in planning and promoting Doors Open events during the summer of 2017.

Duties: The coordinator will work with participating sites to ensure they are able to offer visitors well-interpreted access to sites normally unseen or accessible by fee only. The organizer will help each site ensure visitors receive information about the property’s significance via print, multimedia shows, lectures, exhibitions, informal tours or through discussions with event volunteers. The coordinator will ensure that the event is well–publicized through social media such as Facebook, Twitter and will spend time creating online maps for visitors to access.

Qualifications: Background/training/education or experience in heritage resource management or interpretation, folklore, anthropology, community development, museum studies, tourism, marketing, event planning, architecture, history or cognate disciplines.

Eligibility: The position is funded in part by the Federal Young Canada Works in Heritage Organizations program. Applicants must be legally entitled to work in Canada. Must be 16-30 years of age. Must not have another part time job. Students must be returning to school within the next semester following employment.

Applicant must have exceptional organizational skills , event planning, excellent organizational skills, strong communication skills, liaising between institutions organizations, promotions, computer skills including: experience updating and maintaining web pages, word processing, email, social media like Facebook, Twitter, online mapping features, knowledge of Newfoundland and Labrador history, and interest in or knowledge about built heritage/architecture.

Period of Employment: 35 hours/week for 8 weeks. Driver’s license and reliable vehicle required. Some evening and weekend work is expected.

Location: St. John’s, NL
Salary: $11/hr
