The Okanagan Nation Alliance (ONA) is currently seeking a graduate student to fill a Library and Research Assistant internship position in their Natural Resources department. The successful applicant will receive training on library procedures and conducting research specific to an Indigenous (Okanagan) context. This work will contribute to the preservation of valuable information in a variety of formats and support cultural heritage resource management for the ONA and local communities.
Start Date: May 23, 2017
End Date: August 25, 2017
Wage: $15.00 per hour
Duties will include:
1. Do general library procedures including cataloguing, organizing, and storing books, texts, photographs, maps, and audio and video recordings.
2. Research, gather, and organize multimedia, including audio recordings, videos, images, texts and websites in preparation for their use in various research projects,
3. Assist in the creation of online resources for researchers, including story maps, a seasonal calendar, and plant species identification and information.
4. Assist with arranging and conducting interviews, workshops and TEK camps, and report on outcomes.
Qualifications:
- Understanding of library procedures and policies.
- Practical experience with computers is essential. Some training will be provided.
- Must be a recent post-secondary graduate.
- Understanding of Syilx (Okanagan) cultural heritage, traditional hunting and gathering practices and food and medicines is an asset.
