With a population of about 5,000 people, Red Lake is vibrant and bustling. Known mainly for its bountiful wilderness, Red Lake showcases the very best of the Boreal Forest and Canadian Shield, making it the perfect location for enjoying the outdoors. Red Lake is located two hours north of the Highway 17, between Kenora and Dryden.
The Red Lake Regional Heritage Centre (RLRHC) is a hub for the Red Lake region and is culturally and historically active and vibrant. It is more than a museum; it is a learning centre for everyone and a welcoming and interesting place for locals and visitors alike – it is a destination point and a source of community pride. The Heritage Centre houses a collection of community artifacts including those from the First Nations, early mining, the fur trade and material culture from the individuals who lived in the area.
The Heritage Centre presents a unique opportunity for one successful candidate to help determine the direction for the Heritage Centre's collection and conservation standards and practices. This ambitious project is aimed at fundamentally changing the way the Heritage Centre stores and looks after material culture. The process began in 2016 with an inventory that addressed objects in storage, lighting, relative humidity, temperature and pest management. In order to take the next step in providing real change the Heritage Centre requires an individual with a keen knowledge in conservation to help move the Heritage Centre's new ideas of conservation and collections forward to a point where decisions can be made on the best course of action in the future.
The candidate would be required to:
- Create a report on the Heritage Centre's current standards. The report would include a SWAT analysis and would include guidelines for improving the current systems in place.
- Implement three guidelines from the report.
- Evaluate and improve the Heritage Centre's condition reporting system
- Ready cultural materials for storage
- Other tasks as assigned
• Self-starter with initiative and a keen knowledge in martial culture
• Successful post-secondary (university or college) with a specialty in museum studies (Conservation and collections)
• Proficiency with current technologies, including social media, e-mail, and other publishing / database software (ie – Microsoft Office)
• Enjoy working with a diverse group – volunteers, stakeholders, public
• Excellent written and spoken English required.

Please provide at least two current references and covering letter with your application.
Interviews will be held after the July 1st deadline. Only applicants selected for interview process will be contacted.
