Days of Position: Tuesdays to Saturdays
Hours of Position: 8:30am – 5:30pm, Tuesdays to Saturdays (1 hour lunch)


Job description:
The successful candidate will assist in the preservation, digitization and description of archival records along with reference and outreach services. All newly-created digitized material and archival descriptions will be entered into the MINISIS database and made available to the public through Heritage Services’ online database, SAMOA (Surrey Archives and Museum Online Access).


Duties:
The successful candidate will digitize and describe 2,000 photographs; describe approximately 20 linear feet of civic records; and digitize with optical character recognition of the City Bylaw Collection. All descriptions will be entered in the Minisis database and will be made available to the public in-person in the Archives Reference Room and online through SAMOA. The successful candidate will also assist at outreach events and reference services.


Qualifications:
The successful candidate will be selected based on their education, experience and skills related to the job. Candidates must have graduated from a recognized post-secondary institution within the last 24 months. Completion of a degree in history, library science or archival studies is desirable. Work experience within a cultural heritage facility is favourable, along with training and experience in archival description. The successful candidate will also have a valid driver’s licence, with a safe driving history as well as current Standard First Aid and CPR certificates (or acceptable equivalent). In addition, consent for disclosure of criminal record information is required. Please note that all positions are contingent on Federal Government grant funding and the position may be removed from our website when the minimum number of applications has been received.
